Sheetrock and "Stormageddon 2014"

We've had a busy couple of months, and have been neglecting these updates, but the guys have been hard at work making serious progress on the house, even amidst crazy California rainstorms and lots of wet days, which turned the job site into a giant mud puddle.

Most of these pictures were taken in November, when drywall was almost complete. The last couple of weeks have been all about taping and texture in most rooms, which is making the house feel more and more "real."

We have lots of big decisions ahead in the new year, like cabinets, countertops, floors, and paint... yikes!

And That's a Wrap!

Well, not quite!

But the exterior of the house is getting more and more weather-tight, thanks to being wrapped and sided this week and next week! Here's a peek at the changes that are making this project look more and more like a home!

(This is not the final color of the house. The siding will be painted...debating between a light blue or a neutral sage green... and the trim will be painted white.)

Windows and Doors, Oh My!

The house is becoming more and more "buttoned-up" every day, thanks to the addition of new windows and exterior doors.

I stopped by with own little Vanna White to snap some pictures of the new bling.

The First Cousin Stampede

The pitter-patter of little feet is nothing compared to the sounds this house will hear. We had our first set of cousins come through the construction site to see the progress and it was practically a stampede. The soccer cleats probably didn't help the acoustics in the empty rooms!

Raising the Roof

Who knew that seeing trusses go on a house would be so exciting?

They really are important, though... they've taken the house from looking like this...

... to this in a matter of days! I love how the outlines of the front porch are starting to emerge!

Movin' on Up!

Joey was extremely relieved to find that we officially have stairs in the house now. No more of this loosey-goosey business with ladders. He still doesn't entirely approve of the lack of a handrail, and seeing one of his sisters get too close to the stair opening makes him completely panic, but all in all, this is a big improvement!

Framing: Fast and Furious

The progress has been fast and furious this month... we suddenly have a whole first floor framed up, along with a place to stand on the second floor!

Joey worked past his massive fear of heights and scaled the ladder to get to stand up here (don't ask how long that took), but definitely didn't have the smile on his face that his sister did as she bounded up.

You can see the discomfort on his face here... there are NO.WALLS!

A couple of days later, they were able to stand in their actual bedrooms. Their giddiness was off the charts.
